I was very pleased to be asked to contribute a chapter to the recently published (March 2025) edited collection, Death and Institutions: Processes, Places and the Past (edited by Kate Woodthorpe, Helen Frisby and Bethan Michael-Fox, Bristol University Press, 2025). The book combines chapters on process, place and the past to examine the relationships both within and between institutions, institutionalization and death in international contexts.
“This collection offers clear and perceptive critical lenses to tropes about dying well, the ‘pejorative state’, necropolitics and the Death Positive Movement to name a few, which are soundly researched, timely and refreshing.” Ruth McManus, University of Canterbury, Christchurch, New Zealand
My thanks go to the editors, in particular Kate Woodthorpe, who worked with me on the chapter to polish it for publication.
Other publications of a smaller nature include a book review of the edited collection Difficult death, dying and the dead in media and culture, (edited by Sharon Coleclough, Bethan Michael-Fox and Renske Visser) for Mortality Journal in 2024, and a short video, Voices from the Death Positive Movement, published on the InMediaRes website in 2023.
